welcome to ymge xII

Dearest Delegates and Advisors,

Welcome to YMGE XII! My name is Ahmed, and I am so excited to welcome you all to Yale Model Government Europe! I am unbelievably excited to be able to lead such an innovative, impactful, and iconic conference, which has helped generate passion and knowledge in international relations and diplomacy for over a decade. Our team is committed to providing a dynamic, enjoyable, and enriching experience for our delegates, and we are delighted to be hosting the conference in Athens, Greece from March 16-18, 2023. The past two iterations of YMGE were virtual conferences, and we are extremely proud of the exciting and collaborative environment we were able to create virtually. We are so excited to improve on the last two years and make this conference an even better, smoother in person experience this year.

Our conference boasts a unique take on Model UN seen nowhere else. It is the only conference in the world with its globally unique committee and conference structure, where high-school students converge from around the world to debate events of global importance and put their creativity, diplomacy, and problem-solving abilities to the test. Delegates learn how to actively search for compromises and agreement, while having crisis updates thrown at them every step of the way. They embody a diversity of perspectives and represent them as close as possible, our Regional Bodies help emulate regional politics in other areas of the world in the same universe as each other and the EU committees. Last May, our overarching crisis, which all committees were a part of, involved the riveting and dire plot of a crime syndicate’s attempt to take over the European continent, requiring students to think of dynamic, well-thought-out and extremely creative plans to take the syndicate down.

For the past ten years, it has been our great pleasure to introduce this innovative and exciting structure to delegates from around the world. It has always been our goal to ensure that a diversity of thought and experience are brought to the table — both in the issues we discuss and the delegates we attract — to make for a more enriching conversation. In the past, we have had delegates hailing anywhere from France to New Zealand. The intimacy provided in our smaller committees allow delegates to connect in a way unavailable at similar conferences, and we aim to ensure that all voices and experience levels are heard. Outside of our committees, YMGE rounds out the educational experience with a diverse range of panels and workshops, and social events for our delegates to make long-lasting friendships and connections with students from dozens of other countries.

Keep an eye out for more conference updates as our team works to curate the best possible conference experience. We encourage you all to register as soon as possible in order to secure a seat and to stay in close touch with our team. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me. Thank you so much for your interest and continued support of Yale Model Government Europe, and our team is so excited to meet you all in March!

Warmly,

Ahmed Alananzeh (he/him/his)
